Delightful
The weekend after my dad's birthday and the weekend before my mom's birthday was quite a delight... especially when prepping to tear into a fallen log with a chainsaw (him, not ME)... I called, "STOP".. "don't move".. it was the wild mushroom. Quickly plucking each from the earth only to discover little means for transporting them the 10..12..14 miles on bike. Thank goodness for 4 water bottles. We slugged down one... or 2... I poured out half of another leaving HIM with 3/4 for the remainder of the ride and myself with.. ZILCH. Yes, I chose to clear trail for several hours sans fluid all for the sake of a morel dinner. :) Thank goodness it was a slow moving ride.. made slower by my inability to focus on the task at hand ... yah, I wasn't the picture of happy trail-clearer girl. ho hum.. next time. Promise. I'll try to LOVE hauling fat logs ... heaving large limbs... listening to the obnoxious saw... yah, I'll be smiling baby. :)
So, due to a dreary Saturday filled with drizzle, DRIZZLE, and more Drrriiiizzle... we opted to camp out at the staff house. THE staff house was only built in the 30's by the CCC. Who doesn't love THAT kind of retro? Dang.. I miss the smell of that place.. it was so familiar. I think it took me back to my early days of camping in the big old dorm on the shores of Lake Charlevoix.
My favorite place to be with my favorite things (bikes)... and human.
Timber!!! So impressssive, isn't it?
The dark brown DNR quality is just classic.
"Dusty" the elk overseeing things.. making sure the housemates don't get too rowdy in the wee hours around the table..
Yah, that shelf was pure beauty to me. Seriously, I think I spied a deer skull, bear skull, turtle shell, leg bones (animal, i think?) ha.. and other little forest creatures.
The huge chandelier... didn't get a great photo. Rats. It was amazing and about 5' in diameter!
Over my shoulder to the back yard.. where the lovely river filled with fresh fish flows... we spend so much time on bikes in this forest that we forget about the other sports available!
Did you know that I love maps!? I do.. it's true. Map Love.
The runway to the bunkroom... 20 in total.. huge timber.. impossible to budge bunks covered in dust. Forgiven.
From inside the bunkhouse... all up to code. Nice touch. AND, that door on the right takes a girl straight to the bathroom. How's that for a bed + bath?
The grand table room. This room really could use a larger table... at least it is round? What I would do if I could spend a few days at this place...
Massive fireplace with local rocks... and Dusty. Just realized I forgot to photo the fire grates... made from railroad irons/ties? and ornately shaped. Handicraft like that is just not something you see... love it.
That's right. I'm talking to... YOU!
xoxo
